By offering only minimal value and not just take the fees and run, scammers ensure that their victims will not ask for their money back. And if they do, it will be almost impossible to get a refund.
These scams often use persuasive hooks and baits to attract victims. But here is more.
How to Spot Make Money Online Scams?
Make money online scams have flooded the internet especially during the pandemic. The fraudsters run rampant campaigns on social media, video streaming websites, and almost all other channels. Some carefully target and bait their victims to purchase their courses or products. The favorite platforms where these fake gurus advertise their courses are TikTok, Instagram and use even Google AdWords ads.
However, all of them have some similar features. With careful evaluation of the offers and common sense, anyone can easily spot these scams. Some of the red flags are the following: offers too good to be true, flamboyant videos in which the gurus shows off luxurious cars, beaches and even attractive girls, and countdown timers creating scarcity. There are many courses (and also products) on the internet that offer people to teach ways to make money online even within minutes. They often claim to have some unique way that enables anyone to earn hundreds (if not thousands) by doing simple tasks online.
Some even claim that, like magic, anyone can earn money simply by working for a few minutes online. Courses or products with such outrageous claims are outright scams.
1. Showing Off Luxurious Lifestyle
There are tons of fake influencers showing off luxurious lifestyles on social media. They often post photos and videos of holidays in luxurious yachts, driving expensive sports cars, living in mansions, and whatnot. Some even put bundles of cash in the background, like an entry-level requirement to show people you are a scammer.
Almost all of them are trying to sell something. They usually sell some marketing courses (they favored affiliate marketing ones) or even risker forex or cryptocurrency trading courses.
2. Money Back Guarantee
Several internet courses with claims to teach tricks to earn money online ask for a small deposit ahead with a money-back guarantee. These are very dangerous.
Many fraudsters steal credit card information with these attempts. If not that dangerous, some shady marketers (or scammers) use this trick to identify the paid customer as a “buyer with intent” only to target them with other fraudulent products.
3. No Contact Information
The products of many money online scams usually do not have detailed contact information. They typically come with a contact email and some vague information without reference to any actual person or company.
This should be your biggest red flag. However, if they have a phone number or an email but they refuse to communicate, it is a good reference that you should stay away.
4. Fake Testimonials
Look out for fake testimonials. Scammers usually stuff their courses and products with excellent customer testimonials. Many even showcase fake Facebook and other social media comments.
If you see testimonials with pictures of those who left them. run a reverse image search on those photos. If you find that they are stock images, then you know 100% the whole thing is a scam.
